Add FX rates specialist FX calculations to ChatGPT in a few minutes.
Alto Markets connects to ChatGPT using MCP (Model Context Protocol), allowing ChatGPT to access live and historic FX rates alongside Alto’s FX trade analysis, forward valuation and market-rate calculation tools.
You do not need an Alto Markets account before you start. If you are new to Alto, you can create an account during the connection process
Before you start
Full custom MCP support is currently available on ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu workspaces on the web.
On ChatGPT Business, an Admin or Owner must add Alto Markets to the workspace before other members can use it.
If you are not an Admin or Owner, send this guide to the person who manages your ChatGPT workspace.

For your ChatGPT workspace administrator
Step 1 — Open Apps
Sign in to ChatGPT and make sure you are working inside the relevant Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace.
Go to:
Workspace Settings → Apps → Create
If prompted, enable Developer Mode.
On ChatGPT Business, only workspace Admins and Owners can enable Developer Mode and create or publish a custom MCP app.
Step 2 — Add Alto Markets
Create a new custom app.
Enter:
Name
Alto Markets
MCP endpointhttps://alto-fx.com/mcp
Select the authentication option requested by ChatGPT.
Alto Markets uses secure OAuth authentication.
ChatGPT may scan the Alto MCP server to identify the available calculation tools as part of the setup process.
Step 3 — Authorise Alto Markets
ChatGPT will direct you to Alto Markets to authorise the connection.
If you already have an Alto account:
Sign in with your existing account.
If you are new to Alto:
Select Register and create an account during the connection process.
Your Alto password is entered through Alto’s own authentication page and is not provided to ChatGPT.
Once authentication has been completed, you will be returned to ChatGPT.
Step 4 — Complete the app setup
Once connected, Alto Markets should appear as a custom app in ChatGPT.
During testing it may initially appear under:
Workspace Settings → Apps → Drafts
and in your own Apps settings with a Dev label.
Workspace Admins and Owners can test the app before publishing it for other members of the workspace.
Important — Start a new ChatGPT conversation
Once Alto Markets has been connected and authorised, open a new ChatGPT conversation before trying to use it.
The newly connected app may not appear in the conversation that was already open while you were completing the setup.
In the new conversation:
- Open the Apps/Tools menu.
- Select Alto Markets.
- Ask your first FX question.
For other members of the finance team
Once your workspace administrator has made Alto Markets available to the workspace:
Step 1
Open a new ChatGPT conversation.
Step 2
Open Apps/Tools and select Alto Markets.
Step 3
If prompted, connect your individual Alto account.
If you already have an Alto account, sign in.
If you do not, create one during the authentication process.
Step 4
Start asking FX questions in normal language.
Try your first calculation
Once Alto Markets is connected, try:
“What is the current market rate for buying USD 100,000 against GBP for 30 November?”
Or upload an FX spreadsheet and ask:
“Analyse the executed FX trades in this spreadsheet and compare each transaction with the market rate at the time.”
What can you ask Alto Markets to do?
Analyse executed FX trades
Compare historic spot and forward transactions with the relevant market rate at the time and estimate the embedded spread and monetary execution cost.
Value outstanding forwards
Calculate an indicative mark-to-market for existing FX forward contracts using current forward market rates.
Retrieve current FX rates
Ask for indicative current spot or forward market rates for specified currencies, amounts and value dates.
Retrieve historical FX rates
Ask for the indicative FX market rate at a particular historical date and time.
Working with spreadsheets
You can also upload an FX schedule directly into ChatGPT and ask questions about it.
For example:
“Review this spreadsheet. Analyse the completed trades, mark the outstanding forwards to market and show me the remaining exposure by month.”
ChatGPT can interpret and organise the information in the spreadsheet while Alto Markets performs the specialist FX calculations.
Alto Markets and ChatGPT perform different roles
ChatGPT understands and organises the question. Alto performs the FX calculation.
ChatGPT may independently summarise results, perform additional arithmetic or combine multiple Alto calculations.
Any interpretation or recommendation generated independently by ChatGPT is not a recommendation made by Alto Markets.
Troubleshooting
Alto does not appear in the Apps/Tools menu
First, make sure you have opened a new ChatGPT conversation after completing the connection.
Also check that:
- you are using the correct ChatGPT workspace;
- Alto Markets has been made available by your workspace administrator;
- your Alto connection has been authenticated;
- you are using ChatGPT on the web, as full custom MCP support is currently web-only.
ChatGPT asks me to sign in to Alto
This is normal.
Each authorised user may need to connect their own Alto account before using Alto’s calculation tools.
If you do not already have an Alto account, you can register during this process.
